Melinda is passionate about assisting her clients to find a clear path forward after separation.
Admitted as a Solicitor in 2015, Melinda holds a Bachelor of Arts and Laws from the Australian National University and is nearing completion of a Master of Laws (Applied Law) and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner training. She is experienced in family matters involving children, division of property and obtaining Divorce. She has worked as a Solicitor, mainly in the areas of family law and family violence and has worked in family law policy in the Attorney-General’s department.
Melinda works with each client to hear from them about what is important for their family. She then distils the law and procedure down into clear steps for the client to follow.
As part of her practice, Melinda is committed to assisting people navigate the ACT Magistrate’s Court in matters concerning family violence. She is experienced helping clients obtain protection for themselves and their family. She will also strongly defend a claim against family violence where clients have been wrongly accused.
Melinda’s goal is to ensure that families can move past separation at minimal emotional and financial cost. This often means using her skills as a negotiator to work with the other party to reach a settlement. If parties have already reached an agreement, Melinda will ensure that the deal is finalised as quickly and painlessly as possible. Of course, there are some matters that cannot be resolved by agreement. If required, Melinda is a skilled advocate who will ensure that you understand what is expected of you, and what you can expect, as you enter the Court system.
Separation is never easy but Melinda aims to take some of the pressure off by listening to each client, considering what will work for their family and providing clear advice and representation.
